NESS Energy Project

The NESS Energy project is an initiative to build and operate an energy from waste facility in Aberdeen, UK. The facility will process up to 150,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year from three local councils and generate electricity and heat for nearby homes and businesses. The project is led by Acciona, a global leader in sustainable solutions, and Indaver, a European waste management company. The facility is expected to be operational by 2024 and will comply with the strictest environmental standards.

Our scope was to supply and install on-hire safety netting, edge protection, and HAKI tower access to 11 roof areas, including the Gate House, Pump House, Sub Station, Reception Hall, Reception Hall Entrance, Waste Bunker, Waste Bunker Internal, Internal Cladding, Admin Building, Bottom Ash Hall, and Upper Enclosure.

The complex shape and varying roof levels required elements of our work to be completed via rope access to ensure safe working conditions at height for subsequent trades. Additionally, the location in Aberdeen presented unique challenges, particularly with weather conditions. We had to carefully plan and execute our work around these conditions, ensuring safety at all times.

Project Details:
Safety Netting: 3,560 sqm
Edge Protection: 850 linear meters
HAKI Stair Towers: 235 vertical rising meters

To maintain the highest safety standards, we conducted regular inspections to ensure our systems were secure for everyone working at height. Our cooperative, problem-solving approach focused on project-specific objectives, benefiting all parties involved. This approach earned the confidence of our customers and built a strong working partnership with the team at Entec Design for both this and future projects.
