Ryde Pier
The project involved installing tensioned access safety netting to the underside of Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight. This was executed from pontoons on the sea to provide access for remedial works on the Network Rail railway lines upon the pier.

Nationwide Safety Ltd, in collaboration with Octavius Infrastructure Limited on behalf of Network Rail, undertook the installation of tensioned access safety netting to the underside of Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight from August 2024 to May 2025. This intricate project involved access to the below structure via work boats, pontoons, and towers to ensure safe and efficient remedial works on the railway lines.
Project Scope of Works:
Installation and removal of tensioned access platform safety netting under pier spans 12-56.
Facilitating access to the below structure via work boats, pontoons, and towers.
Evidence of Project Excellence:
Close collaboration with IRC for meticulous approval processes and material assessments.
Rigorous laboratory testing of materials and designs by structural engineers at Tensys.
Design and materials analysed and approved by Richter Global and Network Rail.
Creation of a test rig to ensure quality and client satisfaction.
Achieved top scores in Considerate Constructors Scheme assessment, demonstrating innovative solutions and a positive image in construction.
Health and Safety Performance:
Implemented comprehensive health and safety measures, including dynamic Point Of Work Risk Assessments (POWRAs).
Developed Work Package Plan (WPP) and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS) for operatives.
Additional rescue plans and marine specialists were involved due to the nature of the works above water.
Operatives wore specially designed life jackets for safety.
